THE FANDANGO

Taos Historic Museums is a non-profit entity that is the caretaker of  the E.L. Blumenschein Home and Museum and the Martinez Hacienda (also known as La Hacienda de los Martinez). The Blumenschein Museum specializes in sharing the life of the Taos Art colony, of which Ernest Blumenschein was one of the founders. The Martinez Hacienda, built by Don Severino Martinez in the 1800s, was the childhood home of Padre Martinez and the family that lived a true agricultural and commercial lifestyle. Both of these facilities require high maintenance because of their advanced ages. The museums do not receive public funding from local, county or state governments. The museums derive the chief sources of income from entry fees to the museums, income from the gift shops, grants and fundraising. The Martinez Hacienda needs re-mudding and electrical upgrading at this time. In order to obtain sufficient funds for necessary preservation and conservation of the Martinez Hacienda, board members and volunteer organized a special fundraiser, a gala Fandango, four years ago. The event includes food, entertainment and a live and silent auction. Many of the silent auction items include resort packages, jewelry, services, restaurant meals, artwork and many other items. The live auction includes this years poster artist Clarence Madina's lovely painting La Carreta as well as other high-end artwork, and a hunting trip with a guide. This year’s event begins at 6 p.m. Saturday July 14, 2012 at the Taos Country Club. Flamenco artist Domino Martinez begins an hour-long show at 6:15. Participants will enjoy hearty tapas at various intervals throughout the evening. Tickets cost $75.00 per person. Interested persons may purchase tickets at either museum or from a board member of the Taos Historic Museums. The beneficiary of the event could possibly change from year to year, depending on the needs of the museums at the time. Participants will also receive the opportunity to donate to other specific causes (youth programming, etc.) at the event.
